As more practitioners gain the knowledge and technical skills around the principles of asset management, the next challenge is to advance leadership capacity within organizations. Key factors that contribute to challenges in leadership include strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to inspire and motivate teams. The rapid pace of technological change requires leaders to be adept at managing digital transformation. Leaders need to be adaptable and innovative to navigate complex and changing environments.

To support the practice of asset management in Canada, CNAM has launched a leadership training program geared specifically for organizations interested in mobilizing the benefits of asset management in the business practices of the organization.

The Leadership Certificate program supports skill development in the challenges of leading an organization in the various stages of adopting asset management practices. Participants in the program will have already completed training in the principles of asset management or equivalent experience working in asset management.

The program will align with ISO55000, IIMM and IAM and the course material will be based on the CNAM Competency Framework.

Rather than focusing on the technical aspects, this certification program guides participants through key elements of leading their organization to adopt asset management, including the following key benefits:

Skill Development: Develop essential skills such as communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and team management, which are crucial for effective leadership.

Confidence Building: Boost your confidence by equipping you with the knowledge and tools needed to lead effectively.

Networking Opportunities: Connect with other professionals, expanding your network and opening doors to new collaborations and mentorships.

Personal Growth: Leadership training encourages self-reflection and personal development, helping you understand your strengths and areas for improvement.

Organizational Impact: Effective leadership can lead to improved team performance and organizational success, making you a valuable asset to your company.

Adaptability: Leadership training can help you become more adaptable to change, a crucial trait in today’s fast-paced business environment.

Program Delivery & Schedule (Cohort 2)
CNAM September Webinar: Full Depth Road Reconstruction Prioritization Tool - Part 1 (Thursday, September 17, 2026)

Join us for the "Full Depth Road Reconstruction Prioritization Tool" Part 1 webinar on Thursday, September 17th, 2026 from 1-2 PM ET.

In 2019, the City of Waterloo introduced the Corridor Analysis Tool, built on its custom Waterloo Decision Support System (Waterloo DSS) advancing data-driven infrastructure planning. In 2026, we present a new Excel-based prioritization tool that integrates data from Asset Management and Engineering to rank road segments for capital rehabilitation.

The tool improves capital funding decision-making, while showcasing the impact of cross-disciplinary collaboration for the broader asset management community. This tool was custom built internally, with input from all affected stakeholders within the City’s Transportation, Utility (water, sanitary and storm) and Asset Management business units. It is modular and expandable, and the output is used to determine full-depth capital road reconstruction projects where money is best spent to achieve all known goals for the road segment.

Inputs into the tool include the Corridor Analysis tool outputs, which largely represents condition data of the assets, as well as corridors identified for improvements through various master plans. Future upgrades aim to include known operational issues, compliance with sidewalk policies, and potential inclusion of other assets.

The outputs of the tool include a list of road segments in a priority order, a capital program list and high-level budget for road reconstructions, and a data file which is uploaded to our internal GIS network for all of City staff to have visibility on our planned road reconstruction program for 10+ years.

The presentation will provide a brief recap of the Corridor Analysis Tool, a brief run through of available documentation written for the tool’s use, an explanation of how the priority scores are generated, and an overview of how the tool works in the excel document. The presentation will end with lessons learned/next steps and an opportunity for Q&A.

Part 1 (September 17th, 2026) will be focused on the methods and factors used to calculate the priority score.

Part 2 (October 15th, 2026) will be a quick recap and then a demonstration of how to use the information to determine the limits of a road reconstruction project.

Event for CNAM Members and Non-Members

Presenter:

Kyle Bossie

Kyle Bossie is a Municipal Engineer (P.Eng.) and Project Management Professional (PMP) with 17 years’ experience. During these seventeen years, Kyle has developed skills in the technical and management aspects of civil engineering projects. He has been a topographical surveyor, site inspector, Civil 3D technician, a civil engineering designer and engineer, a project manager, a team manager, and is currently a Manager at the City of Waterloo.

Kyle Bossie has been responsible for performing conceptual, preliminary and final design services, contract administration and post-construction close-out activities on a number of projects. He has obtained third party approvals and permits on his Client’s behalf and performed design and project management duties within provided time constraints, coordinating and scheduling work such that project schedules are maintained.

In his current role, Kyle blends asset management and engineering together to effectively deliver the City's capital budget, working to identify priority linear assets for replacement or rehabilitation. Using GIS mapping, condition assessment data, and other related inputs, Kyle prioritizes the limited tax funding available to municipalities to plan a ten-year capital program for all four major linear assets (road, sanitary, storm, water).

Register Here

Part 1 (September 17th, 2026) - not mandatory to attend to understand, but recommended.

Part 2 (October 15th, 2026) will be a quick recap and then a demonstration of how to use the information to determine the limits of a road reconstruction project.

Presenter:
